See It Be It 2026

As Women in Tech Week gets underway across the UK, we’re reflecting on the importance of encouraging more women and girls to explore careers in cyber security, and how our See It Be It initiative is helping to make that happen.

Taking place from 12 – 16 October, Women in Tech Week brings together organisations, employers and individuals to celebrate women working in technology, share opportunities and encourage greater representation across the sector.

It’s a cause that sits at the heart of our See It Be It initiative at the Cyber and Fraud Centre.

Helping the next generation see what’s possible

On 2 October, we welcomed school pupils, teachers and professionals from across cyber and technology to our See It Be It: Women and Girls in Cyber Conference, sponsored by NatWest and Fortinet at Gogarburn, Edinburgh.

The event brought together pupils from schools across six Scottish local authority areas, alongside women working in a wide range of cyber and technology roles.

Through panel discussions, interactive activities and conversations with industry professionals, pupils had the opportunity to discover the many different careers available in cyber security, ask questions and hear first-hand how women have built their careers in the sector.

One of the most important messages from the day was that there is no single route into cyber.

From technical roles and ethical hacking to communications, risk management, education and leadership, the sector needs people with different skills, interests and backgrounds.

And you don’t necessarily need to have studied computing at school to find a place in it.

The conversation shouldn’t end when an event does

Events like See It Be It are an important starting point, but encouraging more women and girls into cyber requires ongoing support, access to information and opportunities to connect.

That’s why we’ve launched a new See It Be It LinkedIn Group, bringing together women interested in cyber and technology, those already working in the sector and people who want to support the next generation.

The group will provide a welcoming space to:

  • Share job vacancies, work placements and career opportunities.
  • Highlight training, events and professional development.
  • Exchange career advice, experiences and useful resources.
  • Celebrate achievements and share relevant industry news.
  • Connect with others working in or considering a career in cyber security.
  • Find opportunities to get involved with future See It Be It activities.

How organisations can help

Encouraging more women and girls into cyber isn’t something that can be achieved by events alone. Employers and industry professionals have an important role to play by sharing their experiences, offering practical advice and helping young people understand what working in cyber actually involves.

Through See It Be It, we want to continue connecting education with industry and creating opportunities for women and girls at different stages of their careers.

If your organisation would like to support future See It Be It initiatives, provide speakers, role models, career advice or training opportunities, we’d love to hear from you.

Be part of See It Be It

Women in Tech Week is a timely reminder of why representation, access to opportunities and supportive professional networks matter.

Through See It Be It, we’re committed to helping more women and girls see opportunities available in cyber security and supporting them to make their next steps.
