As Head of the Skills Academy, I see first-hand across Scotland how much difference leadership makes in shaping a resilient cyber culture. Cyber-crime is not simply an IT headache — it’s very much a boardroom issue. The choices senior leaders make determine how well an organisation can anticipate, resist and recover from cyber-attacks.

As Shirine Khoury-Haq, CEO of The Co-op Group, put it: “The buck stops with us as senior leaders” — and in that responsibility we must not only choose the best paths to protect our organisations, but also plan how to defend, support colleagues and customers, and recover at every stage.

That’s exactly why we developed the Cyber Executive Education Programme — so that CEOs, Directors and Non-Executive Directors gain not just awareness, but the confidence and tools to own cyber resilience, rather than outsourcing it entirely.

In a single, highly engaging in-person day you will:

  • Clarify your role in overseeing cyber risk — beyond leaving it to the IT team
  • Take away practical, actionable measures to improve your organisation’s defences
  • Grow fluent in the language of cyber so you can make informed strategic decisions
  • Review your incident response plans, legal obligations including reporting, and recovery strategies
  • Connect and exchange insight with senior leaders across Scotland

This isn’t a technical drill — it’s a leadership forum to explore what good cyber governance really looks like.

According to the recently published NCSC Annual Review 2025, the UK is now facing around four nationally significant cyber-attacks every week; a sharp reminder that major incidents are becoming both more frequent and more severe. Ransomware and extortion remain among the most disruptive threats, and the report highlights that good governance and preparedness at board level are key to resilience. You can read the full report here: NCSC Annual Review 2025
