Prior to the arrival of COVD the skills shortage in the cyber and digital industry in Scotland was well chronicled.
Whilst COVID impacts negatively on business growth and employment opportunities, the cyber industry continues to grow with increased opportunity for school leavers as a worthwhile and rewarding career.
With an increasing reliance on technology, cyber-security is becoming a bigger challenge for organisations. Despite recent growth, as indicated in a government report that valued the UK cyber-security sector at £8.3 billion, the skill gap remains large.
The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and Ipsos MORI2 completed a research study which looked at the cyber industry across UK organisations.
It discovered that hundreds of thousands of staff lack the basic knowledge, understanding and general skills to deal with everyday incident response and cyber-security threats .The report also highlight that 48 per cent of UK businesses identified a skills gap.
Entry points to the industry can be confusing with a wide range of industry and academic qualifications available. The evolving roles in cyber, rising salaries accentuated with the current skills shortage make cyber an attractive career.
