International Women’s Day takes place on Sunday 8th March 2026, and this year’s theme Give to Gain couldn’t feel more relevant to our work at the Cyber and Fraud Centre – Scotland.

Why Give to Gain Matters in Cyber Security

The cyber security sector still faces a skills gap, and a representation gap. Women remain underrepresented in technical and leadership roles. That doesn’t change through good intentions alone.

It changes when visible women step forward and say:

‘This is what my career really looks like’

‘I didn’t follow a straight path either’

‘There’s space for you here’

That visibility builds confidence, participation and resilience across Scotland.

See It Be It In Action

Our See It Be It campaign was created with one simple idea: if young women can see someone who looks like them working in cyber, they’re more likely to believe they can do it too.

Over the past year, we’ve been supported by an incredible network of women who:

  • Speak at our events without charging a fee
  • Run interactive sessions and workshops
  • Share honest accounts of their career journeys
  • Offer time for informal conversations
  • Open doors to workplaces and networks

They do this alongside demanding careers and busy personal lives.

The Power of Volunteering Time

One of the most powerful aspects of See It Be It is that it’s community-led. Women from across the industry – technical specialists, incident responders, analysts, consultants, leaders – all step forward because they believe representation matters.

They know that the 30-minutes they give today, could shape a young person’s career trajectory for years to come.

Giving Creates Stronger Security

There’s also a practical dimension to this too.

A more diverse cyber workforce isn’t just fairer, it’s stronger. Different perspectives improve problem-solving. That’s backed by consistent research across sectors.

When women give their time to encourage others into the profession, they’re not just supporting individuals. They are also strengthening the resilience of organisations and communities.

Thank You to the Women Who Make This Possible

This International Women’s Day, we want to say thank you.

To our team members who support our work each day.

To every speaker.

To every mentor who backs our work.

To every young girl and woman who has engaged.

You are shaping the future of cyber security in Scotland.
