Microsoft has issued an important reminder that multiple editions of Windows 11 will reach the end of their support lifecycle on 8 October 2024. This means that after this date, these versions will no longer receive security updates, leaving them vulnerable to cyber threats like malware, ransomware as well as other security risks. It is crucial for all users to take immediate action to ensure their devices remain secure.

The following editions of Windows 11 will reach end of support on 8 October 2024:

  • Windows 11 22H2: Home, Pro, Pro Education, Pro for Workstations, and SE editions (released on September 20, 2022).
  • Windows 11 21H2: Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions.

Recommended Actions

  • Automatic Updates: For users running Windows 11 Home and Pro editions, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update before the end of service date if the device is not managed by an IT department. Ensure your device is connected to the internet and that automatic updates are enabled.
  • Manual Update Check: Use the PC Health Check app or review the Windows 11 specifications to confirm if your device is eligible for the Windows 11 2023 Update (version 23H2). If eligible, manually update your system to receive security updates.
  • Enterprise Users: Organisations using Windows 11 21H2 Enterprise, Education, or IoT Enterprise editions should begin planning for the upgrade to Windows 11 23H2 or later versions to maintain security and compliance.
  • Support Resources: Microsoft offers a guided walk-through and dedicated support documents to help resolve any upgrade issues. It is advisable to review these resources to ensure a smooth transition.

Conclusion

Keeping your operating system up to date is critical for protecting your devices and data from evolving cyber threats. As Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2 reach the end of support, we strongly advise all users to upgrade to the latest version to ensure continued security and functionality.  For more detailed information and assistance, please visit Microsoft’s official support pages or contact your IT department.
