We are excited to announce the launch of the Cyber and Fraud Hub, a pioneering charity dedicated to supporting individuals across Scotland who have fallen victim to cyber and fraud crimes. This initiative has been established by the Cyber and Fraud Centre – Scotland in response to a significant increase in public concerns and incidents reported through its helpline.

About the Cyber and Fraud Hub

The Cyber and Fraud Hub is the first charity of its kind in Scotland, offering comprehensive support tailored specifically to individuals affected by cyber and fraud crimes. While the Cyber and Fraud Centre – Scotland continues its mission to assist businesses with cyber resilience, the Cyber and Fraud Hub is uniquely positioned to provide essential services to the public, including:

  • Reporting and Legal Guidance: Helping victims navigate the complexities of reporting cybercrimes and understanding their legal rights.
  • Victim Assistance: Offering emotional and practical support to those impacted by cyber and fraud crimes.
  • Fund Recovery: Assisting victims in the often-challenging process of recovering lost funds.
  • Educational Resources: Enhancing public understanding of cyber and fraud crime through free courses and resources.

Meeting a Growing Need

In the past year, calls to the Cyber and Fraud Centre incident response helpline have doubled, with 60% of inquiries coming from individuals rather than businesses. Recognising this surge, the Cyber and Fraud Hub was created to address the specific needs of these individuals, providing them with the necessary tools and support to recover from such incidents.

Jude McCorry, CEO of Cyber and Fraud Centre – Scotland, emphasised the importance of this initiative: “The fight against fraud is everyone’s problem, but no one’s priority. We have made it our priority and now need others, including senior figures in financial services and government, to do the same. The Cyber and Fraud Hub meets a vital need for support for individuals who find themselves victims of cyber and fraud crimes. The impact can be immense, both mentally and financially.”

Collaboration and Expertise

The Cyber and Fraud Hub is built on strong relationships with Police Scotland and the banking sector, leveraging their collective expertise to support victims effectively. As ACC Andy Freeburn of Police Scotland, a Trustee of the Cyber and Fraud Hub, stated: “I have seen all the fantastic collaborative work achieved over the last year in combating fraud. The Hub will deliver programs of education and partnership working to help communities and individuals build resilience against cyber and fraud crime.”
